3-rd International Congress of Geriatrics and Gerontology
On September 30th and October 1st of 2021 was held the Third International Congress of Gerontology under the title "Old age is possible". It has already become one of the most important events in the emerging field of geriatrics in our country, which every year attracts more and more participants, internationally renowned scientists and leading practitioners.
The Congress started with the speech of Arthur Torosyan, the founder-president of the "Association of the healthcare and assistanc to older people", in which he summed up the five years of the Association's activity, spoke about the vision of the geriatrics development in Armenia and the forthcoming programs. The speech was continued by Arno Hovhannisyan, the co-founder of the Association, who presented the development of a literate policy on issues related to the elderly, the possibility of their literate collection.
Throughout the Congress leading professors from Armenia as well as international experts in the field spoke both remotely and extensively- Vitalia Wittich, Head of the Demography Department of the UN Economic Commission for Europe, Tara Keck, Professor of Neuroscience, Scientist, Professor Kirill Prosha, geriatrician, Professor Andrey Ilnitsky- geriatrician, Professor Yulia Kotovskaya- cardiologist, neurologist Elen Mkhitaryan of the Russian Gerontological Scientific Clinical Center, Russian Gerontological Scientific Clinical Center, etc. A series of separate lectures was dedicated to nurses, psychologists and the elderly.
As October 1st was the International Day of the Elderly, also took place an exhibition of handicrafts created within the framework of the "Potential of the Elderly as a Resource for Preservation and Transfer of Intangible Cultural Heritage" project, which was implemented with the support of the RA Ministry of Education and Science. It should be reminded, that the two days of the Congress united about 340 participants- doctors of the PHC field, cardiologists, neurologists, healthcare organizers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, other interested specialists.
The Congress was certified by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, and the participants were awarded 11 CME credits. The 3rd International Congress of Geriatrics and Gerontology once again proved with its success and the interest of the participants proved that the development of geriatrics is one of the most important problems to be solved in the Armenian healthcare system by specialists.
